The Alkira – Handmade Shaving Brush
Alkira is an Aboriginal word meaning “bright” or “sunny,” and in some interpretations, “a happy place in the sun.” It carries a sense of warmth, light, and joy — the kind of feeling you get standing on the beach at first light, or sitting somewhere that feels like home. By giving this brush the name Alkira, I wanted to honour that heritage and bring a little of that brightness into something you can hold in your hand every day.
Lovingly handmade by me in the breezy coastal air of Emerald Beach, the Alkira is more than just a shaving brush – it’s a small, joyful luxury that feels as if nature herself designed it for your palm. Its form is simple and fluid, intentionally shaped to sit naturally in your hand. At the crown, where the knot sits, there’s a crisp white tip — clean, fresh, and ready for the day. Beneath it, a clear epoxy with a soft greenish tint holds swirls of gold dust. In some light it glows warmly; in brighter light, it turns softly cloudy — like a little weather system of its own.
Anchoring it all is a tiny, everlasting bouquet: three soft light-pink Globe Amaranth, one deep purple Globe Amaranth, and a single golden Globe Amaranth in the centre. Together they feel like a secret garden waiting at the base of your brush, adding a touch of whimsy to your daily routine.
