Marlu — Spirit of the Kangaroo
“Marlu” means kangaroo in the Warlpiri language, spoken by one of the largest Aboriginal groups of Central Australia. In Warlpiri culture, the marlu is more than just an animal — it’s a provider, a symbol of resilience, and a figure deeply woven into Dreaming stories passed down for generations. By naming this brush Marlu, we honor both the vitality of the kangaroo and the living traditions of the Warlpiri people.

At the heart of the Marlu sits a small banksia pod — a playful twist on the large Western Australian pods I usually use, this time sourced locally and chosen for its compact charm. The pod is gilded in gold, bringing a radiant shine, while tiny bursts of pink and purple Globe Amaranth flowers nestle into its natural holes like bright sparks of energy. To complete this lively composition, the whole piece is encased in a fresh, light-green epoxy that gives it a youthful, vibrant aura — like new growth after summer rains.
