The Uiure,
The Uiure is a tribute to the living wonder of the Great Barrier Reef—handcrafted by me in Emerald Beach, Australia. At its base is a striking piece of native brown mallee burl, its layered, swirling grain like waves upon waves of wood caught in motion. From its top rises a knobby, coral-like burl formation, encased in soft blue epoxy resin that evokes the clear shallows of the Coral Sea. A delicate white spiky flower rests within—like a lone bloom drifting across a reef bed—while the top of the handle fades to pure white where the knot meets the sky.

With a shape that flows naturally in the hand, this brush is designed with simplicity to let the intricate, organic beauty of the materials speak. The light dances across the swirling grain and resin like sunlight through water. Every curve, every detail, is shaped with care—because when you hold something made by hand, you hold a story.

Named for Uiure, the Indigenous name for the Great Barrier Reef, this brush honors the deep connection First Nations peoples have with Sea Country. Home to thousands of reefs and islands, the Uiure is the largest living structure on Earth—a vast, vital ecosystem visible even from space. This brush carries the spirit of that reef: living, layered, and endlessly beautiful.

The Gumbaynggirr people are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which Fuko operates. Fuko acknowledge the Gumbaynggirr people, Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we work and pay our respects to Indigenous Elders past, present and emerging.

This hand crafted handle took just under 3 hours to complete.

This handle is bored for a 26mm knot.
